Just read an article this AM via Google Reader. If you do not use GR I would suggest that you give it a week trial. I find stuff that I normally would not bother finding.
Anyways while I’m not looking to buy a TV anytime soon as we have 2 of them I still love Video/Audio stuff. There was a good write up in the NY Times today.
I would recommend reading it all but it not take away these points:
[snip start]
Mr. Poor is no advocate of future-proofing. He advises consumers to buy what they would enjoy watching today. But then he starts making his list of must-haves.
He thinks it is a good idea to buy a set with 1,080p resolution and at least one, but preferably three or more, HDMI inputs. Because consumers are likely to have many devices like a DVR or DVD player, it pays to have a TV that can support them. And the newer HDMI 1.3 interface adds additional color depth and better audio, including better synchronization between audio and video to ensure accurate lip-synching.
Mr. Poor likes sets with L.E.D. backlighting but “it’s not awful if you don’t have it.” L.E.D.’s, he said, “can display richer colors and help reduce motion blur.” Because the lights have no mercury like the florescent tubes that backlight most L.C.D. TVs, the technology is more environmentally friendly.
To reduce motion blur, Mr. Poor also prefers L.C.D. sets with a frame rate of 120 hertz, or Hz, which means the TV can display twice as many images each second as conventional 60-hertz sets. The 120-hertz sets can display movies more smoothly with some high-definition DVD players.

Came up to Basecamp last night for a short 1.5 day visit. Driving up we go a text message that said there was flooding in Haliburton and if we were ok or not. There was tons of snow up here before the warm temps and it seems that lots of the low areas are flooding. This mean that the Gull river would be kicking ass right now but I’m not in the mood for cold water kayaking so will pass today.
Then as we get closer to the town we see a convoy of Dodge Laramie trucks with tire studs, this is never a good sign as it means that power is out in large areas. We get to the food store and ask if there has been flooding in town etc. Yup lots of the low areas have water in the basements etc. Good news is that Basecamp is on high ground so I do not think (fingers crossed) that this will never be a problem.
Since it is getting late we grab a frozen Pizza and some other basics and cash out. This is when we start talking with the cashier and she mentions how she still does not have power because of the wind storms. Damn! I had forgot about them in the City, she says that they say maybe out till Saturday. As we are walking to the truck we now have visions of sleeping downstairs near the wood stove and eating BBQ frozen pizza and then heading back to the city in the AM as we both need to be working today. We start heading up Harburn road and look for any lights on in the houses. We start seeing some which is a good sign but this does not mean that we have power as the line can break anywhere. We keep checking all the way up and see that person next door has power (cool!).
We start heading up the driveway and then see this large Pine tree fallen across the driveway but since it is so tall it is hung up on the other site. This is where the tow straps come in. I cannot move it by hand but 5 mins setting up a strap to the truck makes short work of it. I might need to buy tires online soon! As we drive up further we go over another smaller one. When we get into the house we see that in the backyard another large pine is down which can only mean I might have more trail cleanup ahead.
So Mozilla labs announced their winners:

And I think that the 2 top winners are great.
Pencil will be a great tool to help people get ideas to paper (well documents).
And Read It Later is going to be a HUGE time saver for me as I normally open tons of tabs or bookmark stuff and never read it.
So after a day of wearing the watch I thought I would post some thoughts.
Seafighter
1st Impression
The watch feels very solid and has a super clean look to it. When I ordered this watch I wanted to try the UCN look with all the trimmings. I also wanted a day/date watch as I like that on the OM. I thought that the way the logo and day/date are on this dial was a nice clean look. The one thing that does take some time to get used to is the lack of text below 12 o’clock (this is the same with the c3).
Weight:
This is not a small watch but is not huge either. I find that it is like the OM in weight (have not weighed it yet).
Case & Bezel:
This is the first polished case I have had and at first it was a little to bling for me. But after sometime it grew on me and helps make this watch stand out from the rest. The bezel is like a safe tumbler with solid clicks and little play.
Dial & Lume:
This watch is easy to read a glance and is not cluttered up at all. I particularly like the way the hands have the black base and all line up when they pass each other.
The lume on this watch is not a bright as my others but then I have some of the brightest watches (OM, SAR, MM, Blackwater). The main reason is that the markers are not that large and the hands are narrow so it is not a fault of the lume but more the dial and hands that I picked. The other thing that was weird for me is that the second hand does not have lume on it (all my others do) so this made the watch look different when I did the first lume check. I did a test with the Blackwater last night beside it and while not as bright it kept the lume all night.
Strap:
The rubber strap that comes with the watch is nice and soft (with no vanilla smell) and has a nice mkki clasp.
Pros:
-Clean Design
-Unique Look
-Great Bezel
Cons:
-Still in lust so none yet
Here it is with the SAR and Blackwater. While it looks the same as the BW in the pic it is a much bigger and heavier watch.
