Open Office (vs MS Office)

OpenOffice

For a new project that I’m working on I have added OpenOffice to my pc for the creation of the documentation. I heard about OpenOffice way back when it was StarOffice and back then was not impressed.

At this time I have just installed and used Writer (Word) and I have to say that I like it. The only item so far that is missing is some of the commenting and reviewing features. They are there but they are different. It is able to open word documents and create PDF without Adobe (which is a nice feature).

The big difference is that OpenOffice is free and open source. It you are looking for a nice free office suite I would definitely have a look at OpenOffice. Did I mention that it is free?

As I’m sure you know I’ve been using OO for a couple of years now and haven’t looked back. It’s been years since I’ve even used MS Office and I have rarely, if ever, miss it.
